The Fishtown Kensington Area Business Improvement District (BID) Steering Committee is comprised of residents, business and property owners and others who have come together to explore creating a BID to plan and fund services to improve and preserve our neighborhood.

We believe that the formation of a BID will allow us to work together to improve the quality of life of our residents and success and growth of our businesses, including enhancing public safety, improving parking and pedestrian access, cleaning streets and sidewalks, overseeing responsible growth, attracting businesses and creating more jobs, branding and marketing the district, providing more promotional programming and hiring full-time staff to manage all of the above.

With these goals in mind we have come together to explore how the creation of a BID can help us ensure the Fishtown area continues to be a great neighborhood to live, work and visit.

The Fishtown Co business association’s mission is to improve conditions for businesses within the greater Fishtown area, attract and retain businesses, generate jobs and improve quality of life. Fishtown Co’s goals are to promote the area’s long-term economic development by creating a thriving retail corridor that attracts both residents and visitors to its vast array of services, shops and dining, while preserving Fishtown’s rich history and diverse character.

With support from the Philadelphia Commerce Department via a partnership grant with NKCDC, Fishtown Co has funded the BID creation process in the hopes of offering more services to the entire Fishtown area.

If the FKABID is formed, the Fishtown Co business association will continue to provide opportunities for businesses and commercial property owners not just exclusively in the FKABID boundaries but in the entire Fishtown area and surrounding neighborhoods to take advantage of marketing opportunities, special events, advocacy, public space improvements and other projects of benefit to the local business community. And businesses located in the boundaries of the FKABID will be eligible for all Fishtown Co member benefits with their FABID assessment payments. The partnership between Fishtown Co and FKABID, as well as NKCDC, will allow us to bring more resources to our area for our members, property and business owners, residents and the entire community.
